I am an award-winning radio and print journalist covering the environment at WMFE, Central Florida's flagship NPR station.

I've worked as a regular contributor for NPR, PEOPLE, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor and many other news organizations. My book on the Everglades is due to be published in spring 2021 by Johns Hopkins University Press.

I was raised in Florida and live in Orlando with my 6-year-old daughter. Someday I hope to leave her the state better than I found it.
